Thomas Jackermeier of hardware professionals Fanatec participated recently in a video interview about its CSR wheels. I’ve noted most of what the video covers below:
As for how long the CSR wheel took to design, Thomas says it was based on Fanatec’s Porsche wheel, so it only took about eight months. The metal base of the CSR Elite, however, took almost two years.
Thomas seems to indirectly answer why the Xbox 360 has fewer force feedback wheels. He goes on to say that the 360 is actually the more open console this generation. “You lay money on the table and get the license.” He feels that Microsoft more than its competitors aimed to be the ultimate plug and play system.
Thomas also goes into why the sensor is not attached to the back of the motor. He says that attaching the sensor to the steering axis increases precision. Thomas then addresses why the CSR wheels are quieter than most. Finally, Thomas talks about the types of settings one can make using the built-in display. The video ends with an appearance from Forza’s own Dan Greenawalt, who shares his thoughts on Fanatec.
I thought this video would complement yesterday’s post about the CSR pedals and inversion kit. With all the racers out this holiday, it may be time to add some hardware to your sim experience. If this is your trusted brand, be sure to check out all our Fanatec news.
