The 2010 Ariel Atom 500 is now available on Simraceway.
900hp per ton. Only a few cars achieve this type of horsepower to weight ratio, let alone make their way on a street. Ariel decided to replace the rear mounted 2.0 liter Honda motor for a race bred 3 litre V-8 fire breather that puts out 500 horsepower and 300 pounds of torque. The only thing they seemed to retain from the Type-R motor was a stratospheric RPM limit, which for the V-8 is 10500 rpm. Through the use of carbon fiber, Ariel was also able to retain the weight.
To cope with this power, a sequential six-speed gearbox is employed, delivering shifts as quick as 40 milliseconds. The Atom 500′s suspension resembles that of a F1 car, with an inboard pushrod suspension that can be fully adjustable to suit different tracks or highways.
The Ariel Atom 500 can accelerate to 60 in less than three seconds on its way up to a top speed of 200 miles per hour, at which point it would be advisable to have a helmet on this open wheel roadster and not mimic your favorite Youtube Atom clip. An aero package was added, evident by the large wing, to ensure stability for this short wheel base monster.
