The 1948 MG TC Midget is now available on Simraceway
The third release in MG’s 1936-launched T-series of Midget sports cars, the timing of the TC’s introduction — straight after the culmination of World War II — was an important factor in helping to turn the British marque’s diminutive creations into icons known across the globe.
The TC Midget was always destined to be desirable in its own right, but its 1945 launch, which coincided with a paucity of quality sports cars due to re-tasked production lines, material shortages, and bombed-out factories, ensured its success. Meanwhile its popularity amongst US servicemen returning from the European theater provided it with a ready-made export market.
It shared the same Morris-built 1.3-liter XPAG powerplant as the 1939-launched TB model, although due to a higher compression ratio, it boasted a marginal power advantage over its pre-war predecessor. The 54.5 bhp available to the TC allowed it to accelerate from 0-60 in just over twenty seconds and gave it a top speed of 78 mph.
